• Prepare a few treats in your hand.
• Click or whistle and immediately reward your dog. Repeat this process several times (5-10x).
• Wait for the dog to become distracted and repeat the click or whistle. If they look at you expectantly, they have grasped the association between the sound and the reward.
• Commence training your dog, using the clicker or whistle to reinforce desired behaviors, followed by giving a reward.
